IS Wireless Broadband

In today's business environment workers travel more, work from home more and spend more time out of the office with suppliers and customers.  These workers often need access to company resources when at home, with clients, with suppliers or otherwise offsite. IS Wireless Broadband offers you, the user, the ability to stay connected 24 hours a day where ever you are.

IS offers your company a range of different wireless broadband solutions, these are:

  • GSM Connectivity (GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSPDA, 3G)
  • MyWireless
  • iBurst

GSM Connectivity
One of the most attractive elements about GSM Connectivity is that although it can be considered as 'always on', you only pay for data sent or received, not for the duration of your session.

GPRS

GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) is seen as the key driver in mobile data communications.

In today's busy world, being productive while mobile is about more than just talking. Via GPRS, a mobile worker has the ability to be able to work "dynamically" via a connection to the office network or the internet.

For the first time, GPRS fully enables VPN and/or Internet functionality by allowing interworking between VPN or Internet and the new GSM GPRS networks. Any service that is used over a VPN or the Internet today- File Transfer Protocol (FTP), web browsing, chat, email, telnet- will be available over the IS infrastructure via the use of GPRS.

EDGE

Edge (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution) - a faster version of the GSM standard and standard GPRS, using a new modulation technique and introducing improvements in the radio protocol to deliver data at nominal rates up to 230 Kbps.

3G

UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) is a so-called "third-generation (3G)," broadband, packet-based transmission of text, digitized voice, video, and multimedia at data rates up to and possibly higher than 2 megabits per second (Mbps), offering a consistent set of services to mobile computer and phone users no matter where they are located in the world.

(3G) HSPDA

(3G) HSDPA is a 3G enhancement that delivers superior speed. Its performance is comparable to today's wireless LAN services, but with the added benefit of mobility and ubiquitous coverage.

MyWireless

Internet access in Africa is regarded as among the most expensive and unreliable in the world. Due to bandwidth restrictions, the reality of Internet connectivity in South Africa has long been characterised by low-speed, unreliable connections at an exorbitant and fluctuating price. Now, technological advances and a new regulatory framework have enabled Sentech to launch the first true broadband wireless service offering, capable of delivering unrestricted, high-speed, portable, always on Internet access at an affordable monthly cost.

iBurst

iBurst technology is an always on wide-area mobile broadband technology offering a unique combination of high speed, wide range and high base station capacity. It’s a pure IP, end-to-end system built on two primary components: base stations deployed by a network operator, much like today’s cellular services, and wireless modems or PC cards that customers use with an existing Internet appliance, such as a notebook.
